Independence Day

I am really enjoying my time here in India as each day is a real privilege to be apart of these children's lives. To be able to share the Word of God and to show Christ's love to them everyday is an amazing blessing.

Today India celebrates it's 71st year of independence from the United Kingdom. Over the past week everyone at school has been preparing for it by practicing dancing, singing, speeches and marching. The day started with an early start with the school bus leaving at 6:30am and the celebrations starting at 8am. Every school has it's own celebrations organised so all throughout the day you constantly hear drums beating, loud music playing and people shouting on megaphones.

All the students were very excited as the school band marched around making a huge noise. The flag was raised and everyone sung the national anthem. Speeches were made explaining the reason for the celebrations and who the freedom fighters were. I was one of the honoured guests who had to also make a short speech. Afterwards there was lovely singing and dancing from some of the students. Overall it was a very enjoyable morning.

The Sunday youth meetings continue to be an encouragement for all which is great. Every Sunday two or three young people share their testimonies on how the Lord's grace has been shown in their lives. Last Sunday we looked at 1 Peter 1 and how we are to rejoice in knowing the Lord is soon to return and take those who are born again to be with Him forever.

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead" - 1 Peter 1:3

Everyday I'm constantly amazed at the amount of kindness and love that everyone shows towards me, especially the children. They are so precious and I can't help but love them back. It's as if they have never experienced brotherly love before. My health continues to remain fine which is a huge blessing. It's a little over 4 weeks until I leave Hunsur to meet up with Keith and I'm already praying that the Lord would open the door for be to return here again. I hope to make the most of the next few weeks here and really have an impact on the children's lives.
